Jess Bonham

Where are you from originally? I am from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada. Back home, we call it the California of Canada: Kelownafornia

How long have you lived in Chattanooga?  We moved here in September 2016 🙂

Tell us about your childhood: I was a wild child and still very much am! I had a vivid imagination as a child and I’ve maintained that youthful curiosity as an adult.  There was a good portion of my childhood where I would only respond to, “Catwoman.” I am so fortunate to have a father who valued time spent outdoors more than anything else.  My father, myself and my two brothers spent all of our spare time camping, hiking, fishing, water skiing and snowboarding. This time spent outdoors nurtured a love for animals and wildlife. We traveled our local province every summer; upon growing older I yearned for greater adventures outside of my home.

Do you have a nick name? Ha! Every new place I go brings me a new nickname: J, Jessi, Jessica-make-a-messica, The Pied Piper, Bums, Juicy Jay and my personal favourite: Queen Cashew Butta (from my hubby).

When were you introduced to Yoga? I decided to try Yoga in 2012 when a new Bikram Yoga studio opened up in Kelowna.

How do yoga and the community play a role in your life? Chattanooga is the place where we finally decided to set down roots.  Yoga and climbing have been a means of making connections and finding our new tribe.  Social connections are a little more slow going as new parents so finding like minded individuals at the crag or in the studio have meant the world to us!

What pose do you love the most and why? Savasana because it is the most difficult pose for my overly active mind.

What is your favorite quote? “Consult not your fears, but your hopes and your dreams.”-Pope John XXVIII
